- Result: One system carries dinner-service background music through to resident-DJ volumes, in white finishes that are hard to spot unless you look for them
Villa Coconut had to sound right twice in one night: clean background music over dinner, then full resident-DJ volume later, with no speaker standing out in the room. One white K-array system, now covers both, indoors and on the terrace.
Villa Coconut is a high-end Mediterranean restaurant in DIFC's Gate Avenue, and the Egyptian brand's first venue outside Egypt. Its interior is the point of the place, so the audio had to work around the design, not interrupt it.
The Challenge
Most restaurant systems are tuned for one job. Voice-friendly background levels leave a room flat when the DJ starts, and a system sized for the DJ is usually too bulky and too visible for a dining room. Villa Coconut needed both ends of that range from one install, indoors and on the outdoor terrace, with the hardware blending into the design.
The Solution
Indoors, the system is built on K-array Kayman KY52 line array columns, four in total, in white. Each is a true line array element built around four closely spaced 4" neodymium woofers in a chassis just 5" wide. That slim profile lets them sit against the interior rather than stand out from it, and the line array behavior gives focused, even coverage across the room without pushing level at the tables nearest the speakers.
Three white Python KP52 columns support the Kaymans indoors. Each carries six 3.15" drivers and has a selectable wide or narrow vertical dispersion, so coverage can be tuned to each zone instead of working around it. Four more KP52s cover the outdoor area.
The low end comes from Thunder KS2P 18" passive subwoofers indoors, four in white, and four Thunder KS1P 12" passive subwoofers outdoors. The KS2P reaches down to 35 Hz and peaks at 137 dB, which is where the DJ-hour weight comes from while the sub stays compact enough to disappear into the build.
All of it is driven by the Kommander KA208, an 8-channel, 20,000 W Class D amplifier with onboard DSP (8x 2500 W @ 4Ω). Passive K-array speakers run on dedicated presets loaded into the amp, so the whole system is tuned as one. The same platform gives clean, low-level dinner mixes and the headroom for late-night sets, with no equipment changes between the two. Tuning and control run through K-array's K-framework 3 software and K-array Connect app.
The Result
Villa Coconut now runs a single system across its full day-to-night cycle, indoors and out. The white Kayman and Python columns blend into the interior and are hard to notice unless you look for them. The audio still holds up at both ends: background clarity for dinner, and DJ-level output when the room shifts gear.
