Procom Middle East is hosting a Rigging Course - Theory & Practice at its training center in Dubai.

The Rigging Course is based on ICOPER (version 2, 2022) - the International Code of Practice for Entertainment Rigging which the NRC assessment scheme in Europe is based on. It has been designed to give a better understanding of rigging for event and live entertainment productions. This includes the roles and responsibilities for safe installations through equipment use and its limitations.

The course offers something for all skill levels including:

Technicians who work solely on the ground but should understand what goes on overhead

Venue management staff who want to improve their ability to identify any unsafe rigging activities and assess designs to be within the capacity of their venue.

Riggers who are responsible for the safe installation of the equipment

The course runs over two consecutive days, with a split between classroom style theory, and practical hands-on sessions.

    Topics Covered:

    • Regulations, Approved Codes of Practice and Standards
    • Personal Protective Equipment Types and Applications
    • Rigging accessories – slings, shackles
    • Rigging appliances – motors, hoists
    • Rigging structures – Truss, stages
    • Rigging practices – both good and bad
    • Practical Working tips and tricks

Will the course make me a ‘qualified’ rigger?

Attending a training course cannot make you competent or qualified but it will identify areas you need to work on and familiarise trainees with the assessment criteria for the NRC level 2 assessment, improving the chances of achieving this if a company is to invest in a candidate being sent overseas for an assessment.  In the UAE, employers must provide adequate training for work activity where there are risks to your (or anyone else’s) health or safety because of the work you do. Undertaking training will help to satisfy that requirement.

This course does not address rigging  in the following areas:

    • Performer flying or automation
    • Theatre flying and rigging
    • Structural design or engineering
    • Rope access methods or application
    • Rescue methods or planning
    • Scheduling or selecting rigging personnel
    • Transport, logistics or the management of loading or unloading of vehicles
